DEF: Deaf Entrepreneurs for the Future

In Europe, there are approximately 51 million people with hearing problems (including hearing loss and deafness), which is 9% of the EU population (1 in 10). In line with the “Strategy for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities 2021”, launched by the European Commission (EC) to ensure their inclusion and economic autonomy, and with the EU agenda for Higher Education (HE), which includes among its priorities the creation of inclusive HE systems.

Objectives

The project objective is to promote and create a more inclusive hei system that promotes equal access and equality for deaf people in entrepreneurship education, through concrete tools addressed to european heis, their deaf students and other stakeholders. This goal generates 4 specific objectives:

  • Support the is in adaptation of its self-entrepreneurship and business management courses to the educational needs of deaf students, originally designed for hearing people.
  • Promote the entry of deaf students into the labour market as self-employed workers or entrepreneurs, addressing related employment barriers.
  • Debunk the myth of low employability and low professional contribution of deaf people.
  • Promote an innovative approach in the learning process and, following the "social model of disability", involve all stakeholders in the project activities
